A Brooklyn woman has filed a $500,000 lawsuit against the Hard Rock Cafe & Hotel in the Dominican Republic following a golf cart accident that left her injured.

US woman sues Hard Rock Cafe for $500k After golf cart accident

Taylor O'Leary, 27, alleges that she fell from the cart due to a slippery and wet seat while staying at the Hard Rock Hotel in Punta Cana in July 2022.

O'Leary's lawsuit, lodged in Brooklyn Federal Court, claims that the incident resulted in multiple unspecified injuries. The complaint argues that both the hotel and its parent company, Hard Rock Cafe International, should be held responsible for damages.

The accident occurred at the Hard Rock Golf Club, which features an 18-hole course designed by Jack Nicklaus. The resort, known for its luxury and high-profile clientele including celebrities like Shakira, Justin Bieber, and Mariah Carey, charges a green fee of $300.

This legal action reflects a broader trend of seeking compensation for personal injuries. For instance, a South Florida jury awarded $800,000 in damages last year to a family whose young daughter suffered second-degree burns from a hot McDonald's Chicken McNugget in 2019. The settlement included $400,000 for past suffering and $400,000 for future pain.

Similarly, Philana Holmes, who experienced the McDonald's incident, had taken her children to a Tamarac McDonald's where she was not warned about the hot temperature of the food. The resulting burn injury to her daughter, who was four years old at the time, led to substantial legal action and compensation. Holmes used photographic and audio evidence of her daughter's distress in the court case.
